Q. Is my child a fit for your programs? top
A. There is only one type of child that is not right for One World Karate – A child that doesn’t want to be there. Any child, regardless of their special needs or disabilities is welcome. We have several programs available and I promise one of them will be perfect for your child.

Q. Is this Real Karate? top
A. We are an academy style of Martial arts instruction. Our curriculum is based primarily on an art called BANDO from the country of Myanmar. All programs are based on this art combined with skill sets from Jiu jitsu, Karate, Tai Chi, and other systems. We customize every student’s journey through the art to fit their abilities and challenges. The important thing to remember about One World Karate is that we set the student up for success, and to that end we are infinitely adaptable.

Q. Where are you located? top
A. Our classes are taught at 7801 N. Lamar Blvd. Ste. B150. We utilize a gym that provides a professionally designed space for working with special needs students. Our online classes and zoom classes go right into your home workout space!

Q. What kind of contract do you require? top
A. This is easy. No contract. Ever. We only offer month to month payment plans. Your monthly dues are the same each month and we simply request a 30 day notice if you ever need to leave our school. Belt tests cost $30 to pay for the belt and certificate, and there are no other hidden costs or strings attached.

Q. How many students are in each class? top
A. Beginner classes are considered full once we reach 12 students. Intermediate classes and Advanced classes are considered full at 15 students. Once class is full, our concern is for the existing students and their classroom experience. Decisions to close the classroom to further students is final. At no time will any class of any students exceed a ratio of 8 students to one instructor.

A. As much as possible, the answer is yes. There are certain limitations based on class enrollment and size. Private lessons are, of course, always available.

Q. My child has inappropriate social behavior. Won’t he disrupt your class? top
A. Teaching social skills is half of what we are all about! If your child has tremendous issues, we can start him or her off in private lessons to develop familiarity and comfort between us, and to build a strong routine of behavior and activity. Then we can begin including the student in classes with other students. Social skill deficits, and overcoming them, are all part of the classroom experience. They are built into the martial art activities and philosophy we adhere to. Very young students learn them through games and simple, easy to understand classroom rules, while older students learn the deeper reasoning and philosophical underpinnings of important life and social skills we utilize daily.

A. Of course we can! Put simply – WE ARE INCLUSIVE. We like to believe we foster a positive and caring environment in our classroom, and we all work together to help each other achieve success. If there is a serious concern about the amount of attention required, our private lessons may be just the thing, but our goal is always to include everyone in the class. I have even worked with students confined to a bed. We can adapt to any situation.

Q. Can I watch my child in class/ Do I have to be present during class?top
A. We have a great lobby space for parents to sit and watch the students train. The private lesson room has a camera the parent can use to observe classes from their smart phone! However, as respite for parents is extremely important, parents are welcome to use the class time as an opportunity to rest, relax, grab a coffee from a nearby shop, or even sit in their car for quiet time.

Q. My child is terrified of strangers / new events / change. I’ll need to be on the mat for the first few visits. Is that possible? top
A. It’s not only possible, it’s encouraged! We want nothing but the best experience for your child. However, the situation does require that we have a clear understanding that the class is run by the instructors, and the class is run for the student. Parents play the role of teachers aide, not co-teacher.

Q. What does it cost? top
A. The core cost is $159 a month for two classes a week, and it is $95 for private lessons. We accept all major Credit Cards, as well as Checks and Cash.
